Quick Diagnostic Checklist
When unexpected behavior occurs in PanoView Editor, running through these four baseline system checks resolves the majority of operational problems within seconds:
Ensure the target panorama document or its extracted edit document is the active tab in Photoshop. Switching between tabs updates panel context.
Verify your panorama canvas width is approximately double its height (within the supported ±2% tolerance, such as 8192 x 4096 or 12000 x 6000).
Confirm your document is set to RGB Color at 8 Bits/Channel or 16 Bits/Channel. 32-bit floating point workflows are unsupported for production reprojection.
Verify that your license status indicates an active 7-day trial or lifetime license. Protected actions require valid local entitlement.
Issues involving canvas aspect ratio, color mode conversion, layer visibility, or document tab selection that you can fix directly in Photoshop.
Issues involving modified reference layers, missing editable views, or renamed Smart Objects requiring non-destructive session repair.
Panorama Opening & Geometry
PanoView Editor validates panorama geometry upon opening. Spherical 360° projections require equirectangular images with a 2:1 width-to-height proportion.
Symptom: Panorama Cannot Be Opened or Validated
Cause 1 (Unsupported Aspect Ratio): If the panorama canvas width is not twice the height within ±2% tolerance (for instance, a flat panoramic crop such as 3:1 or a standard photograph), PanoView Editor alerts you that geometry is non-equirectangular.
Action: In Photoshop, select Image > Canvas Size... or Image Size... and ensure dimensions match exact 2:1 proportions (such as 6000 x 3000 px).
Cause 2 (No Active Document): If Photoshop has no open document, or a modal tool is active, the panel remains in standby.
Action: Open your equirectangular panorama document in Photoshop first, then switch back to the PanoView Editor panel.
Symptom: Unsupported Color Mode or Bit Depth
Cause: The document is formatted in CMYK, Lab, Grayscale, Indexed color, or 32 Bits/Channel (floating point HDR).
Action: Convert the panorama document in Photoshop:
- Choose
Image > Mode > RGB Color - Choose
Image > Mode > 8 Bits/Channelor16 Bits/Channel
PanoView Editor provides native 16-bit workflow processing without downscaling your imagery to 8-bit.
Edit Workflow Problems
Extracting a rectilinear perspective view via Edit This View generates an embedded Smart Object containing the dedicated editing structure.
Symptom: Edit This View Button Is Inactive
The Edit This View button may be temporarily unavailable under the following verified conditions:
- Modal State Active: Photoshop has a dialog, crop tool commit, or text editing cursor active. Press Enter or Escape in Photoshop to exit modal mode.
- Active Document Is Already an Edit View: If you are currently focused on an extracted edit document window rather than the source panorama, the panel adapts its actions to Apply View Edits.
- Entitlement Check Required: If your trial has ended or access requires validation, the panel prompts for license verification before generating new perspectives.
Apply Problems
Applying edits transforms your rectilinear modifications back into spherical equirectangular coordinates. When Apply View Edits is blocked, check for layer integrity:
Reference Layer Integrity
Blocking ConditionThe Background/Reference layer must remain unmodified and locked. PanoView Editor calculates modified pixel differences by comparing your edits against this original perspective reference. If this reference layer is painted on, moved, or deleted, difference calculation cannot guarantee visual fidelity.
360 Edit layer or group, keeping the reference baseline untouched.Preview Problems
The 360 Preview panel delivers an interactive, responsive spherical inspection viewport. Keep these distinctions in mind:
The interactive 360 Preview is optimized for fluid camera navigation and composition framing. It does not reflect production-quality raster resampling, which takes place with full resolution and preserved color depth during Edit This View and Apply View Edits.
The New Doc perspective export button requires an open, valid equirectangular source panorama. If the document tab switches to a non-panoramic file or an edit document, the export option dims until a panorama tab is selected.
Access & Licensing Problems
PanoView Editor operates using secure offline-friendly licensing. Production features check local cached entitlements before executing:
Occurs when the offline grace interval has elapsed without reaching the verification server. Connect to the Internet and click Refresh Access.
The 7-day evaluation period has ended. Enter an official license key via Enter Code to restore full production features immediately.
No active trial or lifetime key is recognized. Click Start 7-Day Trial or enter your purchased license code.
Large Panorama / Resource Conditions
Working with high-resolution 360° panoramas (such as 16,000 x 8,000 px or larger at 16-bit) demands substantial RAM and scratch disk throughput.
Memory Preflight Advisory
Advisory NoticeWhen an operation estimates that working memory will exceed approximately 1.5 GiB (an estimated working memory advisory threshold, not a system RAM limit), PanoView Editor displays a protective advisory dialog. This is not an error or a failure; it is an advisory prompt offering explicit choices:
- Cancel: Aborts the operation cleanly so you can close unnecessary background documents, adjust memory allocation, or save progress.
- Continue: Proceeds with full-resolution transformation without any downscaling.
