Two Different Jobs: Preview vs Production
A foundational principle of PanoView Editor is the strict architectural separation between responsive viewport navigation and production-grade image manipulation. Understanding this distinction prevents a common misconception: a fluid interactive viewer does not mean your panorama has been permanently downsampled.
Navigation & Preview
Designed for fluid orbiting, panning, zooming, and framing inspection in real time.
- Primary Purpose: Fast navigation and composition framing.
- Optimization Target: Viewport responsiveness and low latency.
- Source Redefinition: Never. Does not modify or downscale source pixels.
Edit This View & Apply
Executes high-precision rectilinear ray projections directly against full-resolution source rasters.
- Primary Purpose: Exact perspective patch generation and reprojection.
- Data Source: Full-resolution Photoshop document raster.
- Quality Target: Complete preservation of native fine detail.
From Panorama to Perspective Edit
When you select a perspective angle and click Edit This View, PanoView Editor calculates the optical geometry required to extract an undistorted patch. Rather than taking a low-resolution screenshot of the panel viewer, the extraction engine reads directly from your full-resolution source document:
Source Panorama
Full-resolution 2:1 equirectangular document open in Photoshop.
Camera Orientation
Heading, Pitch, and FOV parameters define the projection cone.
Raycast Sampling
High-precision raycasting samples full source raster data.
PSB Document
Full-resolution perspective canvas opens ready for editing.

Native Bit-Depth Preservation
Professional panoramas frequently originate from high-end multi-exposure captures requiring 16-bit tonal fidelity. PanoView Editor honors this requirement throughout the production pipeline:
RGB Color (8 Bits/Channel)
RGB 8-bit panoramas extract into native 8-bit perspective edit documents and return as 8-bit projection layers, offering optimal processing speed and memory efficiency.
RGB Color (16 Bits/Channel)
RGB 16-bit panoramas extract into genuine 16-bit perspective edit documents and return as 16-bit projection layers without being silently converted to 8-bit during production operations.
Applying at Source Resolution
When edits are complete, Apply View Edits maps modified perspective pixels back into the original spherical coordinate space at 100% scale:
Because only modified pixels are remapped and composite over the master panorama, unretouched image areas remain untouched, preserving original camera sharpness across the entire panorama.
Why This Architecture Matters
By decoupling interactive navigation from production processing, PanoView Editor provides the best of both worlds:
Fine-Detail Preservation
High-frequency textures, delicate architectural lines, and distant foliage retain native sharpness without softening from intermediate downsampling steps.
Native-Depth Continuity
Professional 16-bit captures remain true 16-bit files throughout the round trip, preventing banding in subtle skies and atmospheric gradients.
Non-Destructive Layering
Retouched patches integrate onto dedicated managed projection layers, keeping your original background panorama pixels completely unaltered.
Responsive Interaction
You navigate and frame perspectives with fluid real-time responsiveness, while all demanding calculations execute only when you choose to edit or commit.
